Riley has a wide range of weapons, from a small selection of knives to a sturdy length of rope; however, he often utilizes normal household items and then rarely reuses them unless they take his fancy. One of his few constants is that he uses a hypodermic syringe and whatever he has on hand to drug victims.Description:
Riley, when not slouching, stretches to six feet tall. He is of average build - not overly muscular, but he isn't a twig, either, and there's no fat on his figure. He has dark, greasy brown hair that curls down to his ears, but he's always clean-shaven. His eyes are a pale blue and are typically settled into grey hollows, giving him the look of a drug addict or a chronic insomniac; he has poor vision, but typically wears contacts over glasses. Riley almost always dresses warmly - he's mildly asthmatic, prone to the flu, and gets cold easily.History:
You can make a lot of presumptions about a person based on their appearance; if you saw Riley on the street, you would perhaps see him as a video game beta tester or an overworked college student. You certainly wouldn't think that he's a serial killer.
Riley was born one lazy June day in Reno, Nevada to a short-tempered mother and an alcoholic father; he had two older brothers, one seven years older and one four. His early childhood was an unhappy one, but he doesn't remember most of it; his father abandoned the household with his younger sister's birth, when Riley was five.Personality:
With his father gone, the Kieran family moved to the outskirts of the City, his mother taking up a job as a maid and his oldest brother Jonathan making a little money however possible. Riley, his brother Lewis, and his little sister Emmy were left home alone often.
When he started school he proved to be an exceptional student, excelling in math and science but lacking when it came to sociallizing with others; he spoke - and still speaks - with a faint stutter that worsened whenever he was nervous and was ostracized.
When Riley was eight, his father tried to reconnect with the family; he'd "turned his life around" and wanted to resume the position of patriarch in the Kieran household. He sent gifts to the children often - knowing Riley's interest in biology, he sent the boy a parakeet for his birthday. Riley was delighted by the gift, only to watch his mother break its neck.
After that he started to exhibit sadistic tendencies towards animals; the boy would abuse the neighborhood strays and kill pigeons that lay in the gutters. If no one was looking, he'd light small fires and watch them closely before extinguishing them.
Still, his grades didn't suffer; if anything, he excelled at school even more.
In his freshman year of high school, he and his little sister went swimming in the country; she drowned, and Riley was apparently distraught. He was sick with nerves for weeks afterwards and didn't attend school for a month.
In his senior year of high school he won a full scholarship to a medical school just outside of the city. He began interning at a local hospital; this allowed him to steal and hoard anesthetics - and other drugs - with relative ease, though he wasn't entirely sure why he did it. Not that it mattered - he knew that he would use them sometime, and until then he would wait.
When he was twenty-three he killed his first victim. Her body was only recenty discovered, almost a full year later.
Six months after the first, he killed again.
Two months ago, he took his third victim.
In between the second and the third there was another, but she escaped; he fretted that she would be able to give the police information, but she had been drugged heavily and could recall no details about him or where he'd taken her.
In high school and college, Riley had experimented with drugs and found none quite to his liking; now he finds that this is his ideal addiction.
At night when he wanders aimlessly around the outskirts of the city, he can almost sense a more powerful, more refined predator lurking somewhere in the shadows. This unnerves him, true, but he always convinces himself that it's only paranoia. Understandable.
Riley is a quiet, unobtrusive young man who's painfully awkward when it comes to large social gatherings; his slight stutter grows when he's anxious, and when he's around more than four people he's always anxious. He's ashamed of his speech impediment, but there's nothing he can do about it. Around women he's particularly awkward and more noticeably shy. He has very little connection with his family - he's been distant with them since Emmy's death - and virtually never speaks to them.Role-Playing Sample:
Riley is exceptionally studious; one of the great loves of his life is literature, but he also enjoys what college has had to offer so far. He also is a great admirer of beauty - it's not unusual for him to spend a free day in an art museum. He's an amateur photographer - in high school, most teenagers tried to save up for a car. He saved for a camera.
He views smoking as a filthy vice, but nonetheless can be occasionally seen smoking to smooth his nerves.
Of course, the medical student does live a sort of 'double life,' but he's good at keeping them separate. When it comes to crime scenes, they're always immaculate and it's often difficult to actually find the bodies - his first victim was only found recently, and there are two who have yet to be found. He doesn't kill immediately, and around those who are destined to die, Riley demonstrates marked self-control; his stutter decreases, he takes on an almost polite and professional persona, and for a few precious moments he has control over someone. It's that Riley craves almost as much as the actual death.
