Power:
Virgo can cause intense, occasionally paralyzing fear in those surrounding him at whim. He has a natural aptitude for discovering others' worst fears, and naturally gives off a general "bad feeling" that causes animals and small children to steer clear of him. His presence causes nightmares in dreamers that he can somewhat influence.Description:
Virgo was born with dark brown hair, but he's been regularly dying it black since he was thirteen; occasionally it can be found something more eyecatching, like aqua blue or neon green, but usually it's the color of a raven's wing and just as glossy. He's of average height and build, with hazel eyes flicked burgundy and a mouth full of unnaturally white teeth. Both ears are pierced in the lobe and cartilage, as well as a stud in his nose and 'snake bites' under his lips; he's been petitioning his mother for permission to get a tattoo since he was ten, thankfully to no avail. When it comes to clothing, his base color is typically black, with more vibrant colors playing a role somehow; in the summer he can occasionally be caught wearing tie-dye or Beatles t-shirts, a sharp contrast to his typical attire.Play-by: Frank Iero
History:
Virgo's mother was a secondrate 'psychic' hack making a living in San Francisco by preying off of unwary tourists and the plain foolish alike. One evening she had an unusual visitor in her parlor - a sleek, wealthy-looking man with maroon eyes and a mouthful of thorny teeth. His very presence terrified her, triggering some half-buried instinct that this was not something mere mortal, something that could peel away the modern infrastructure and let the primordial fear swarm out. Nevertheless, she did the simple tarot reading he requested, and he was back in a week - and the week after that.Personality:
Naturally, she was intrigued, and when you play with fire you're typically burned.
When she found out she was pregnnant, her first urge was to get rid of it, but "Drake" made it brutally clear that if she wanted an abortion, he'd perform it himself. With teeth. Half against her will, the psychic carried the child to term; during the birth all drugs meant to ease pain were ineffectual, and the moment Virgo met air two older patients on different floors had heart attacks. Later on it was learned that at least thirteen patients experienced "anesthesia awareness" - that is, being fully conscious and able to feel pain but unable to move during surgery. The seventeenth of September clearly hadn't been their lucky day.
Shortly after his birth, Virgo and his mother relocated to New York City; though Phobos had already disappeared at this point, he'd told her that his child would draw unwanted attention of the monstrous variety. Once he started learning his first words, his mother grew more attached to him, and by the time he was five Virgo was a spoiled brat clinging to his mother's skirts. Phobos provided enough money for the Reese family to live a comfortable lifestyle, though his mother continued to run her act. Childhoodwas punctuated by occasional visits from Phobos, at seemingly random; the child would tell anyone who would listen that his father was Hannibal Lecter, "only a thousand times awesomer."
When Virgo was about twelve, his mother decided that sending him to the 'camp' Phobos had occasionally mentioned might be for the better; he was only a summer camper, and that was enough to teach him to control what abilities he was already displaying. He was claimed by Phobos within moments of his first midnight at Camp Half-Blood; a blood-curdling shriek with words written in its seams certainly got the counsellors' attention. Like father, like son, and neither had ever heard of the word 'subtle.' For his thirteenth birthday, Virgo was given a guitar pick that could transform into a shield and a tack that could transform into a mace. Clearly his father had good taste in presents.
Unfortunately, that was the summer his mother started dating again: a cop, no less, one that had recently divorced and had full custody of his four-year-old daughter, Lauren. Virgo and Bill were like water and oil, always feuding and never mixing.
Then they got engaged.
It was Bill who (firmly) suggested that Virgo was sent away for the entire year and not just during the summer, called him a 'bad influence' on his now seven-year-old daughter. Though Bill thought that his stepson was being sent to residents in San Francisco as opposed to a camp for demigods, that probably wouldn't have changed anything in the first place. Needless to say, Virgo isn't looking forward to his first winter at Camp Half-Blood.
First and foremost, Virgo is a drama queen if there ever was one; he struts through life with a cocky, occasionally psychotic flamboyance that stems from both the ADHD and his less-than-conventional upbringing. His behavior is terribly erratic - he can go from moody to bemused in moments - and it's sometimes difficult to predict what will tick him off. He constantly embellishes the truth, and acts as if he were all that and a bag of skittles. Of course, he's also a spoiled brat that's never wanted for anything in his life and still hugs his mother, but there's no room for that when one is being a badass, is there?Role-Playing Sample:
He can occasionally play subtle, loving practical jokes and other mischief but having no imagination for it himself; he's garnered a reputation for abusing his limited abilities, and anyone could be a target if it's their unlucky day.
Virgo was raised on tarot cards, astrology, and palmistry and will occasionally demonstrate it, but his real interest is music; he hopes to eventually be a successful guitarist, but for now his practices are restricted to dramatic air-guitar solos with a pick that occasionally turns into a shield if he isn't careful.
Virgo is terrified of heights. Absolutely, irreversibly terrified of them. The only time he's ever flown is on a week-long trip to visit relatives in San Francisco; on the way there he quickly hyperventilated himself into unconsciousness, and on the way home he prayed to every god he could think of, popped aspirin like they were pez, kept his eyes off of the windows at all time, and nearly caused a plane-wide panic. Needless to say, he hasn't flown since.
Though many of his traits are unpleasant and irritating, he can occasionally be enjoyable to hang out with; he's got a good - if occasionally bizarre - sense of humor, is highly social, can be relaxed and pleasantly lazy on occasion, and is enthusiastic when it comes to Capture the Flag and similar endeavors. Just don't mention heights and he'll be just fine.
