Description:
Kirby is a lanky young man who's roughly five-foot-eleven. His straight black hair pokes down to his chin and neatly frames a gracefully angled face. He's half Irish, but his Asian ancestry is plain in the decent, well-balanced features. His eyes are a dark, warm brown that are typically half-lidded in lazy contentedness, and he‘s typically sporting a sleepy smile. Kirby certainly isn't going to win any awards any time soon for being a snappy dresser - he judges clothing on comfort and functionality as opposed to appearance, and "formal" to him is a clean shirt and a pair of jeans that lack holes, stains, and patches or hand-me-downs from one brother or another.

History:
Kirby‘s life thus far has taught him that family is everything.
His father, James McCoy, was an Irish immigrant “fresh off the boat,” while his mother was half-South Korean, half-Japanese, and thoroughly Americanized. The couple had nine children before their youngest - James Junior, Jeremiah, Methuselah, Paige, Choko, Isaac, Patricia, Asayo, and Kyo. Kirby was an accident, albeit a welcome one, born May 19th. His mother had been intending on naming him Shigure Nevaeh McCoy, but she‘d been in poor condition after his birth, and his ever-scheming father had been the one to make out the birth certificate… “Kirby” for the beloved family dog that had passed away a week prior.
Needless to say, that didn‘t go over well with his mother.
She persisted in calling him Shigure and his father called him whatever name first came to mind; early in life he learned to answer to pretty much anything, a habit that‘s stil present today. They lived in an enormous house in the suburban area of the city, though ‘enormous’ is relative - no place is big when you have nine siblings living in the house and one visiting from college whenever possible.
Kirby did relatively well in high school, though he‘d never had much of an interest in education - he preferred to watch his older brothers mess around in the garage, and found that he had quite an aptitude for it himself. In his junior and senior years, he fell in with ‘the bad crowd:’ at least, to an outsider. They were a motley collection of teenagers with Valo parents and those who aspired to join the organization themselves.
He managed to graduate high school, ending his lackluster career in education, and joined Valo; he was hardly more than a mechanic, though he has picked up some less-than-legal skills from his comrades. His brother Jeremiah (and his wife and two twin daughters) owned a store and let Kirby live on the unused second floor for a year or two, though eventually the young man moved out and bought a small townhouse of his own.
The only family members who know that he belongs to Valo are Jeremiah, Asayo, and Kyo; while they‘re disapproving and disappointed, they know better than to leak it to the rest of the McCoy clan. Because, though Valo occasionally aids city police to strike a low blow against Intuneric, he is still a criminal… not to mention the fact that his oldest brother and that brother's daughter both work for city police.
Personality:
Kirby seems to be channeling a Beatles album half the time; he‘s very relaxed, mellow, and casual, greeting everyone as if they were a long-lost cousin. It’s virtually impossible to get him furious about anything, or rile any sort of hatred in him past an occasional competitive streak. He’s both generous and gullible, a particularly dangerous combination when you’re walking downtown - he’s pretty much a con man’s dream victim, and will believe them every time. He isn’t much of a partier, but he does enjoy a drink with friends - and he’s capable of downing copious amounts of alcohol before getting drunk.
Kirby isn‘t a fan of violence or waste - this is the guy who‘ll go far out of his way to recycle something or avoid a petty argument. When it comes to a fight he‘s pretty much useless, unless it‘s acceptable to sit on the sidelines with a first-aid kit while looking vaguely nauseous. One thing he doesn‘t tolerate is animal abuse, and he‘ll be unusually hostile to those that do mistreat critters. He‘s a borderline vegetarian - he can‘t give up meat completely, but doesn‘t eat more than chicken or fish and rarely does more than once every other day.
He‘s good with kids - a necessity, considering he has seventeen nieces and nephews (and counting) and pets, though the only furry companion he has is a rabbit named Bugs.
Kirby is not the man to have around during a disaster. An anticipated emergency - being wary of police during a break-in, for example - he can handle, but those that come out of the blue - a tornado, a kid breaking an arm, a gun being pointed at his head while he’s at the grocery store and minding his own damn business - cause him to freeze up.
